Locally, Chelsea's Christopher Schmelz and Dexter's Chris Marsh earned All-State recognition.
Schmelz, who'll continue his athletic career at Hope College, was one of the state's best outfielders for the Bulldogs. A prolific base stealer, Schmelz was a catcher's nightmare once he reached base. For his efforts this season, Schmelz, a senior, was selected to the Division 2 All-State second team.
Marsh, a powerful 6-foot-3, 220-pound pitcher-infielder was named to the Division 1 All-State second team. A two-sport standout, Marsh is being recruited by numerous Division I colleges for both football and baseball. At last report, Eastern Michigan University appeared to have the inside track to signing Marsh.
Other local players earning postseason honors included Grass Lake senior pitcher Charlie Fisher who was named to the All-State Dream Team, as was senior infielder Brent Orhman of Adrian.
Saline senior pitcher Adam Clements made the Division 1 All-State first team, while teammate junior catcher Brad Guenther earned second team honors.
Tecumseh's senior catcher Troy Hill and senior infielder Cam Worker were named Division 2 All-State first team.
